Dear USA Yoga Members

As I write this newsletter, I realize that it’s been 3 weeks since the New York Regional and National Yoga Asana Championships were held in the Hudson Theatre, Times Square. Not to mention, the event also marked the 10th anniversary of USA Yoga. While I feel that time has passed so quickly, the spirit of this 3-day event lingers with me. I left New York inspired by the talents of the competitors, and extremely grateful for the dedication and perseverance of the teams around me who make events like these possible.

If you didn’t catch the Championships at the theatre or via live stream, allow me to share some of the highlights with you. The New York Regional Championship was opened by the exuberant Broadway entertainer, Mark Nadler, with Craig Villiani taking over emcee duties for the 2-day National event – they both did an exemplary job in their roles. Presenting Alison West of Yoga for New York with a Community award was an honour, and for me, recognizing Sri Dharma Mittra for his support and contribution to the yoga community was a heartfelt acknowledgment. The strength, grace, and performances of the competitors from across the nation were exceptional. Witnessing this, along with the Champion of Champions demonstration, was symbolic of the positivity that Yoga brings to the community. Cynthia, Ky, Joseph, and Esak – thank you for continuing to share your love for the sport of Yoga Asana around the world.

I feel immense gratitude for the audience who comes to watch the Championship events – they are the energetic support. New York City and spectators from all over the US brought an electric vibe to the theatre. This is what I mean by sports bringing the spirit and community together!

There are many people to thank for the event’s coordination, and these include the team at Bikram Yoga NYC and LES; the production teams; the people behind the stage curtain who create a sense of calm for competitors prior to their demonstrations; the competitors, and coaches and family & friends who travelled with them; the administrative teams, the media group, and photographers; the theatre staff; judges; and our sponsors. Thank you to all of them: our Gold sponsor – Shakti, our booth, and studio sponsors.

You can view all our sponsors here: Sponsors For images, results, and video of the event, see the links here:  2013 National Results.

My final words: Please continue to share the spirit of Yoga Asana; our hope is to encourage unity within the wider yoga community in the celebration of Hatha Yoga. My dream is for us to come together and achieve this vision.

Love and Peace,

Rajashree
